Two parts to know that these mushrooms DON'T have: a ring (a skirt of tissue on the stem) and a volva (a cup at the very base). Pioppino is the rare gourmet exception with a real ring. A volva plus white gills is a classic deadly Amanita tell โ if you ever find a wild mushroom with a cup at its base, put it down. Positively identify anything wild before it goes near a pan.
